Gang Related Shooting Kills One

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, March 22, 1999

On Friday afternoon, March 19,1999 at approximately 1:30 P.M., the victim was standing on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of West 48th street. An unknown male suspect driving a brown or beige vehicle approached the victim, driving westbound on 48th street. The suspect fired multiple rounds from a possible semi-automatic handgun, mortally wounding the victim. The suspect fled the scene southbound in the north/south alley to the rear of the 4800 block of Western Avenue. LAFD Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the death of the victim at approximately 1:50 P.M. The motive for the shooting appears to be gang related.

The suspect is described as: male, Black, medium complexion, narrow face, 20/25 years old, shaved head, with a thin build. He was driving an older model, late 70's to 80's brown vehicle, possible 2-door Oldsmobile or Chevrolet.

South Bureau Homicide Detectives are handling the investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 213-237-1310.
