Unfortunate Accident Kills Toddler

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT

Tuesday, March 30, 1999

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a fatal traffic collision that occurred in the Pacoima Area, involving an 18-month old child.

On Monday, March 29, 1999, at approximately 9:55 a.m., an 18-month old baby boy was struck and killed in the driveway of the Missionary Church at 10002 Laurel Canyon Boulevard. The accident occurred when a vehicle being driven by Pastor Juan Rodriguez was backing out of a driveway at the church. The child ran into the side of the van, and dragged underneath the undercarriage before the driver could react.

The child suffered major head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel.

Preliminary investigation into the accident has revealed no negligence on the part of the driver. There will not be any charges filed in this case. It is being treated as an unfortunate accident.

The investigation is being conducted by Valley Traffic Division.
