LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, March 1, 1999

On Saturday, February 27, 1999, at approximately 9:05 P.M., the victim, Tammy Ephrim, a 29 year old, female/Black, left her residence on the 2600 block of South LaSalle Avenue. Seconds later, gunshots were heard and the suspect, Joseph Weathington, a 31 year old, male/Black, was seen fleeing from the fallen victim. Weathington was seen entering a dark colored vehicle when he fled the area. The Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics pronounced the victim, Ephrim, dead at the scene.

The suspect was later arrested at his residence in Inglewood and the possible murder weapon recovered.

The victim is believed to be the suspect's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his two children. Both have been involved in a custody battle over the children. The motive for the homicide appears to be Domestic Violence.
