Transient Found Dead in Alley

LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Monday, March 15, 1999

On Sunday, March 14, 1999, at approximately 8:00 AM, West Valley area officers responded to a radio call regarding a death investigation in the rear alley of the 7200 block of Remmet Ave in Canoga Park. The responding officers were met by a neighbor who resides in the area and directed them to the dead body lying in the alley. The neighbor advised the officers that he had been walking in the alley when he saw the body. The officers determined that the victim had died as the result of a homicide and they secured the crime scene and notified homicide detectives.

The investigation has revealed that the victim sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries to his head and was killed at the location where his body was discovered.

He has been identified as 37 year old Francisco Mateo Villareal, a local unemployed transient from Mexico. No motive has been determined and no suspects have been identified or arrested.

If anyone has any information, please contact Detectives Dave Szabo or Steve Galeria, West Valley Homicide Detectives at 818-756-8591.
