Suspect wanted in homicide investigation

Monday, March 6, 2000



"Suspect Wanted in Rampart Homicide"

Los Angeles - On Monday, March 6, 2000, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the victim was in a parking lot located to the rear of 2003 West 7th Street. The suspect confronted the victim while in the parking lot and an altercation ensued. During the altercation the suspect armed himself with an unknown type handgun and fired multiple shots at the victim from close range, hitting the victim in the chest. The victim staggered out of the parking lot southbound on Westlake Avenue to westbound 7th Street where he collapsed, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the body.

The victim was transported by rescue ambulance to County USC Medical Center where he succumbed to his wounds.

Witnesses observed the suspect fleeing northbound through the parking lot into the Metro Rail parking lot for the Red Line MacArthur Park Station. The suspect was bleeding and left a blood trail that terminated in the area of 6th Street and Alvarado Street. The suspect was described as a Male Hispanic, 30 to 35 years of age, 5'05"-5'06", black hair, brown eyes, 150lbs-180lbs. The suspect's clothing was described as a light colored shirt and blue jeans.

The motive for the argument and shooting is not known at this time. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
