Los Angeles: On February 10, 2002 at approximately 12:40 a.m., a fatal hit and run, auto vs. bicyclist traffic collision, occurred in the 5000 block of South Normandie Avenue. The collision occurred when Los Angeles resident Herbert Gasper, 41 years-old, was riding his bicycle southbound on Normandie Avenue and was struck by an unknown make/model vehicle, which was also traveling southbound on Normandie Avenue. Mr. Gasper was dragged underneath the suspect vehicle over 100 feet before coming to rest in the roadway. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department responded and pronounced Mr. Gasper dead at the scene.

The driver of the suspect vehicle failed to stop, render aid, or call for emergency assistance. There were no witnesses to the collision and unfortunately no suspect or vehicle description was obtained.

On Friday, March 15th, 2002, 9:00 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division Detectives and family members of Mr. Gasper, will be holding a press conference at the scene of the crime, seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect responsible for killing Mr. Gasper. A photo of Mr. Gasper will be provided by the family.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Detectives at 323-290-6063 during business hours. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
