"Traffic Collision Becomes a Homicide Investigation when Doctors Discover the Driver Was Shot"

 

Los Angeles: On Saturday, March 23, 2002, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Rampart Patrol Officers responded to a Traffic Collision Investigation at the 400 block of North New Hampshire Avenue. Prior to the arrival of the officers, the Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics who responded to the emergency call, observed the victim in a vehicle, slumped over the steering wheel. The victim was unconscious and was transported to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital Emergency Room. Upon arrival at the emergency room, it was discovered that the victim sustained a gunshot wound to his back. He failed to respond to emergency treatment and was pronounced dead.

It has not been determined where the actual shooting took place. Witnesses at the scene heard the traffic collision but did not hear any gunshots. The motive for the shooting is unknown. The suspect or suspects and the weapon used are not in custody. The victim is described as a male Hispanic, approximately 25 to 30 years of age. His identity being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
