Shots Fired Call Results in Homicide Investigation

"Shots Fired Call Results in Homicide Investigation"

Los Angeles: On Saturday, March 23, 2002, at 7:00 p.m., Foothill Area patrol officers responded to a "Shots Fired" radio call at the 9800 block of Stanwin Avenue. Upon the officer’s arrival they were met by witnesses, who directed the officers to the body of a victim of a shooting in the front yard of a residence. The victim, later identified as Hugo Alberto Flores, a 20 year-old resident Arleta, was pronounced dead by responding Fire Department Paramedics at the scene.

The investigation revealed unknown suspects attacked the victim as he was walking near the corner of Pierce Street and Stanwin Avenue. Some words were exchanged between the victim and his attackers just before one or more suspects shot the victim.

The motive for this crime is gang related. The suspects and weapon are not in custody.

Foothill Area Detectives, under the direction of Captain Kris Pitcher, Commanding Officer Foothill Operations Support Division, are conducting the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact homicide detectives at 818-834-3115 or 818-834-3105, during regular business hours. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
