Unprovoked Shooting Leaves One Dead

Los Angeles: Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of 32 year old Leo Aguila, a resident of Los Angeles.

On March 21, 2003, at approximately 2:05 p.m., Mr. Aguila was walking northbound on the east sidewalk of Workman Street. An older model Jeep Cherokee, yellow/gold in color, which contained two male Hispanics in their twenties, pulled into the driveway of a parking lot just north of Mr. Aguila’s location partially blocking the sidewalk.

As Mr. Aguila approached the vehicle, the front passenger exited and armed himself with an unknown type handgun. The suspect fired several rounds at the victim and struck him in the back of his head. The suspect re-entered the vehicle and the vehicle left northbound on Workman Street and out of sight.

Los Angeles City paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the victim dead at 2:14 p.m.

Hollenbeck Detectives are seeking assistance from the public in solving this murder. Anyone with information is asked to contact them at 323-526-3142 during normal business hours. A 24 hour toll free number is available at 877-529-3855.

This press release was prepared by Officer Don Cox, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
