Detectives Investigate a Homicide

 

Los Angeles: 77th Street Homicide Detectives are investigating a shooting that led to the death of one male and the wounding of another.

On Sunday, March 23, 2003, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Los Angeles police officers assigned to 77th Area responded to an "Assault with a Deadly Weapon" radio call in the 3200 block of West Slauson.

The victims, 14 year-old Marquise Pickins and another 14 year-old male were standing on the sidewalk in front of the above location with a group of companions. Unidentified suspects approached the group and after a brief conversation, the suspects fired several rounds at the group striking the two fourteen year-olds.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the location and pronounced Marquise Pickins dead at the scene. The additional fourteen year-old male was transported to a local hospital for treatment. He is listed in stable condition.

The motive is unknown at this time. The suspect(s) and weapon(s) remain outstanding.
