Operation Safe Streets

Los Angeles: On Saturday, March 29, 2003, at 11:00 a.m., Wilshire Area Police Station will be hosting "Operation Safe Streets," a massive community outreach and crime suppression event. Police Officers assigned to Wilshire Area, as well as police resources from throughout Operations-West Bureau will be deployed in Wilshire Area. Dozens of Los Angeles police officers will be deployed on foot throughout the area and will be contacting as many community members as possible. This is an effort to seek the community’s input concerning crime reduction, the quality of police service and their concerns.

In addition, community members are encouraged to participate at four separate venues that will be set up within Wilshire Area. Each venue will cover a variety of topics including Crime Prevention, How to Avoid Being a Victim and Violent Crime and Graffiti information. Each venue will have officers who speak Korean, as well as Spanish. All community members, including adults and children, are encouraged to attend. In addition to providing information concerning crime reduction, police officers at these venues will also be seeking the community’s input concerning how Wilshire Area and the community can best work together to reduce crime and the fear of crime.

For further information, please contact Sergeant Valerie Gettis, Officer-in-Charge, Wilshire Area Community Relations Office at, 213-473-0204 or 213-473-0200.

This media advisory was prepared by Public information Officer Adriana N. Sanchez, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
