Early Morning Shooting Claims Life

 

Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the murder of a male Hispanic approximately 34 years of age.

On Monday, March 31, 2003, at approximately 5:00 a.m., Rampart Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call at 237 South Westlake Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers observed the victim down on the sidewalk suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper torso. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to USC Medical Center, where he died as a result of those wounds.

According to witnesses, they heard gunshots followed by the sound of screeching tires. The suspect and weapon are outstanding. The motive for the shooting is believed to be narcotic or gang-related. To date, the identity of the victim is unknown.

The Los Angeles Police Department is seeking assistance from the community, asking witnesses to contact Rampart Homicide Detectives at 213-207-2051 during daytime hours.
