Man Killed during Robbery Attempt

Los Angeles: On Sunday, March 14, 2004, at about 4:00 a.m., Van Nuys Patrol Officers responded to a radio call of " Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Shots Fired" in the 5880 block of Sepulveda Boulevard. Upon arrival, Officers were met by a witness, who told them that he and his uncle, David Earl Cosgrove, a male White, 21 years of age, a resident of the Van Nuys area were walking home from a bar. Two male Hispanics armed with a handgun approached them and demanded their money. The witness in fear, ran from the suspects. As he ran he heard a shot, turned and saw his uncle on the ground and the suspects running away. At this time, it is unknown if any property was taken from victim David Cosgrove.

Los Angeles Fire Department Rescue Ambulance transported David Cosgrove to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. The motive for the shooting at this time appears to be robbery.
