Shooting Victim Dies At Hospital
Los Angeles: On Friday, March12, 2004, at about 3:50 p.m., Van
Nuys Area patrol officers responded to a shooting call at Sherman Way and
Hayvenhurst Avenue. Upon arrival at the location, the officers found two men
suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. One of the men was shot multiple
times to the upper torso and the other man received a gunshot wound to his
foot. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported both
men to local hospitals. 20 year-old Anselmo Carbajal Jr. was treated for a
gunshot wound to his foot and was released same day. 21 year-old Rene
Carbajal was admitted in critical condition. The two men are brothers and
residents of Van Nuys.
On Monday, March 15, 2004, Van Nuys Are Homicide Detectives were informed
by hospital staff that Rene Carbajal had died as a result of his injuries.
The motive for the shooting at this time appears to be gang related. No
witnesses to the crime have been found. Anyone with information is asked to
