Los Angeles: On Thursday, March 25, 2004, from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., technicians from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Bomb Squad will meet with more than 800 high school students during the WESTEC 2004 Advanced Productivity Exposition.

The WESTEC Exposition, North America’s largest annual manufacturing and metalworking event, is celebrating its 40th Anniversary and is expected to attract more than 20,000 aerospace, defense, manufacturing professionals from around the world and students from Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

Featured during the event is the LAPD Bomb Squad who will showcase, explain and answer questions about LAPD’s bomb robot, manufactured by Remotec, a division of Northrop-Grumman. It is on rare occasion that the public has the opportunity to see up close the remote controlled bomb robot, which is used to render safe possible explosive devices and utilized during Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) call-outs.

Following the tours, students will have the option of visiting the nearby Los Angeles Trade Technical College or visit the Los Angeles Sports Arena for the opening day of the first Robotics Regional Competitions.

For additional information regarding the WESTEC 2004 Advanced Productivity Exposition, please call Janis Elspas, The Bohle Company for SME/WESTEC, at 310-785-0515 extension 246.
