Detectives Seek Help In Shooting Death

Los Angeles: On Saturday March 27, 2004, at approximately 12:10 p.m., Jose Pena was driving his Sports Utility Vehicle eastbound on Huntington Drive east of Van Horne Avenue. Pena’s wife was in the front passenger seat and his five-year old stepdaughter was secured in the left rear passenger seat. A full sized pick-up truck, possibly gray or blue in color, pulled next to Pena’s vehicle and someone inside fired several rounds into Pena’s vehicle, striking him in the upper body. The truck then left the area in an unknown direction.

After the shooting, Pena’s wife got into the drivers seat, and drove him to Alhambra Hospital. Emergency treatment failed and Pena died from his wounds.

Hollenbeck Detectives are seeking assistance from the public in this matter. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detectives Ricard or Preciado at 323-526-3680 during normal business hours. A 24 hour toll free number is available at 1-877-529-3855.

This news release was prepared by Officer Don Cox, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
