Robbery at El Pollo Loco, Results in Officer Involved Shooting

Los Angeles: Just before 9pm on March 10, 2005, at the El Pollo Loco restaurant at 4405 S. Avalon, an officer with the California Highway Patrol and an Officer with the Los Angeles Police Department were involved in an Officer Involved Shooting.

The officers were working together, assigned to a joint regional auto detail investigation. The officers were inside the restaurant when a 20 year-old male black, entered the eating establishment. Preliminary information indicates the suspect pulled a gun and attempted to rob the restaurant employees. A shooting occurred involving the CHP officer. The suspect, who was hit by gunfire, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division will be handling the Criminal Investigation portion of the incident. The CHP will handle the Officer Involved Shooting Administrative Investigation involving their employee.
