Skeletal Remains Discovered in Chimney

Los Angeles: Southeast Homicide Detectives are investigating the cause of death of a person whose skeletal remains were discovered in a chimney.

On March 25, 2005 at about 6:00 p.m. in the area of 89th Street and Main Street several neighborhood children were playing when their ball went up on the roof of an abandoned building. One of the children looked into the chimney and saw what was believed to be a human skull.

Further investigation determined that there in fact was a decomposed human body inside the chimney. A preliminary investigation by Los Angeles County Coroners Office revealed the skeletal remains were those of an unidentified young person. An analysis by anthropologists from the Coroners Office will determine the sex and age of the person.

Anyone with information is asked to call Southeast Homicide Detectives at 213-972-7848. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).
