Why:
In the United States, a pedestrian is killed in a traffic collision every 113 minutes and injured in a collision every 8 minutes. Older pedestrians account for 15 percent of all pedestrian fatalities and 6 percent of all pedestrian injuries.
In the San Fernando Valley, the number of pedestrians being struck and killed while crossing the street has increased significantly. Senior citizens are at greater risk.
