Taxi Cab Driver who Struck Man in Wheelchair Turns Himself In - UPDATE
Los Angeles: The police department is seeking the public’s help in identifying the driver of a car that killed a man in wheelchair last night.
On Thursday, March 9, 2006, at about 8:45 p.m., LAPD traffic officers responded to a fatal hit and run traffic collision at Adams Blvd and Palm Grove Avenue.
According to witnesses, Jose Laboy, a 34-year-old, Hispanic man in a wheelchair was crossing Adams Boulevard near Palm Grove Avenue, when he was hit and thrown out of his wheelchair by a car going eastbound on Adams Boulevard.
The suspect made no effort to stop. The suspect is described as a man with dark complexion who was driving a taxicab. The taxicab was described as a mid 90’s Ford possibly a Crown Victoria green and white in color.
Mr. Laboy was taken to a local hospital where he died a short time later.

UPDATE
On March 17, 2006, after detectives contacted several local taxi cab companies in an attempt to find the driver of the felony hit and run. Daryl Manning, a 50-year-old man, walked in to South Traffic Division and turned himself in.
Mr. Manning was arrested for 192(C ) 1 of the Penal Code, Gross Vehicular Manslaughter.
