Westfield Topanga Mall Donates State-of-the-Art T3 Personal Mobility Vehicles to LAPD Topanga Division

What:
News conference to announce the donation of two T3 Personal Mobility Vehicles to Topanga Division

When:
Wednesday, March 25, 2009 1:00 p.m.

Where:
Westfield Topanga Mall (inside “The Canyon” area)
6600 Topanga Canyon Boulevard
Canoga Park, CA 91303

Who:
LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore, Operations-Valley Bureau
LAPD Captain John Sherman, Area Commanding Officer, Topanga Division
LAPD Captain Maureen Ryan, Patrol Commanding Officer, Topanga Division
Greg Coulas, Senior Operations Manager, Westfield Topanga Mall
Erick S. Klafter, Senior General Manager, Westfield Topanga Mall

Why:
To publicly acknowledge the generous donation made by Westfield Topanga Mall and to demonstrate this important new tool to enhance community policing.

The T3 Personal Mobility Vehicle is electrically powered.  They have a top speed of 12 miles per hour and enhance patrol efficiency by allowing officers to cover large areas in a short amount of time. They also improve visibility because drivers stand on a raised, eight-inch platform as they maneuver easily through crowds and tight spaces with the maximum stability of a three-wheel design.

Unlike conventional motor vehicles and as part of the Department’s effort to utilize environmentally friendly technologies, the T3s have the added benefits of zero emissions and an operating cost of only 10 cents per day.

Visuals:
The T3s will be on display and officers will be available to demonstrate their operation.

Contact:
For further information, please contact Sergeant Rachel Raigoza, Topanga Area at 818-756-3180, or LAPD Media Relations Section at 213-485-3586.
