One Victim Dies Another Wounded As Suspects Call Out Gang Name and Shoot Both

On Tuesday, May 25, 1999 during the late evening hours, victims Eddie Peralta, a male Hispanic, 20 years of age and an unidentified male Hispanic, 23 years of age, were visiting with friends in the 1500 block of West 60th Street. As they were leaving, the suspect, armed with a handgun began shooting at Peralta and the unidentified victim. Just prior to the shooting, one of the suspects called out the name of a gang that is known to frequent the area where the shooting occurred. Peralta and the unidentified victim were not known to be gang members. Both Peralta and the second victim sustained gunshot wounds. The suspects were observed fleeing the area in a Red Nissan passenger vehicle. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Peralta died at the hospital due to his injuries. The second victim is hospitalized and is recovering.
