On Monday, May 24, 1999 at 10:00 a.m., officers of the Los Angeles Police Departments Northeast Division will be on hand at UCLA Medical Center. Officers will be at the bedside of a young boy they had previously "adopted" as one of their own. Cheering on Shao Shao Deng as he approaches his next major hurdle, the third surgical procedure intended to correct a congenital heart defect.

Four-year-old Shao Shao came to Los Angeles from China last year, after his father put on a desperate plea for medical help through the Internet. Officers from LAPD Northeast Division became aware of Shao Shao’s plight and assisted the youngster in raising funds for his medical car and for his family’s living expense. Two previous surgeries have been proven to be successful and optimism runs high among family, friends and officers that next operation will be as successful.

The media is invited to attend the visitation. Media are requested to report to the first floor information desk, Mettel Childrens Hospital at UCLA Medical Center, 10833 Leconte Avenue, Los Angeles.
