Valley Pursuit LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT PRESS RELEASE Tuesday, May 25, 1999 On May 22, 1999 at 5:00 PM, uniformed police motor officer L. Medrano assigned to Valley Traffic Division was working traffic enforcement on Woodman Ave near Oxnard St. He observed Suspect Bobby Womack driving a 1995 Chevrolet Impala south on Woodman Ave at over 60 MPH. The officer followed the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop him for the speeding violation. The suspect accelerated away from the officer and turned west onto Oxnard St. He continued west on Oxnard St at a very high rate of speed and then turned north onto Hazeltine Ave. He drove north on Hazeltine Ave. at a high rate of speed to Vanowen St. where he failed to stop for a red traffic signal. There he collided broadside into a 1995 Toyota Corolla driven by Saadat Nazari, a resident of Van Nuys. The defendant ran from the scene of the traffic collision on foot and was arrested by officer Medrano after a foot pursuit. Mr Nazari was transported by ambulance to Holy Cross Hospital. Mr Nazari died as a result of his injuries on 05-23-99. Valley Traffic Division detectives are handling the investigation. For Release 8:00 am PST May 25, 1999
