"Gang dispute at Party Turns Violent; One Dead"

Los Angeles - On Sunday, May 21, 2000, at 12:29 a.m., Victim Joel Neri, a 20 year old, male Hispanic, attended a party on the 13800 Block of Hubbard Street in Sylmar. A dispute between two rival gangs attending the party erupted into a shooting. Victim Neri was struck by the gunfire, and was subsequently pronounced dead by Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics.

A motive for the shooting is unknown. Foothill Area Homicide Detectives are conducting an investigation into the crime, and are interviewing individuals who attended the party.
