Public's Assistance in Locating a Murder Suspect

"Public's Assistance in Locating a Murder Suspect"

What:
LAPD will hold a Press Conference to request the public's assistance on Homicide Investigation

When:
Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at 1:30 PM

Where:
Pacific Community Police Station, 12312 Culver Boulevard, Los Angeles

Pacific Area Homicide Detectives are investigating the murder of Javier Hernandez, a 24 year old, Hispanic. On May 5, 2001, at approximately 4:55 p.m., Hernandez was washing his vehicle in the parking lot next to his residence on Sawtelle Boulevard. An unidentified male Hispanic suspect approached Hernandez and shot him with an unknown caliber handgun. The suspect fled on foot northbound on Sawtelle Boulevard towards Braddock Drive.

The investigation revealed that the suspect possibly attempted to carjack a vehicle that was exiting the northbound 405 Freeway on the Culver Boulevard off-ramp. Pacific Homicide Detectives are seeking information from anyone who may have been at that location on the above date and time.

Family members of the victim will be at the press conference to make a special plea to the public to assist the police with information to solve this murder. Anyone with information that may assist Pacific Homicide Detectives, please contact Detectives Hoffman or De Pasquale at 310-202-4506.

This press release was prepared by Officer Eduardo Funes, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
