Los Angeles - On Thursday, May 31, 2001, at 10:00 A.M., the
West Valley Division will be presenting a certificate of appreciation to
Crossing Guard, Irene Barbeau at Vanalden Street Elementary School. The West
Valley Officers are recognizing her for her 25 years-plus of "protecting and serving" the children of the Vanalden Street
Elementary School. They are also recognizing her for the positive image that
she displays to the children and to the officers of the West Valley Area.
Ms. Barbeau always acknowledges the officers of the Los Angeles Police
Department with a warm smile and a friendly wave as they drive by. This type
of encouragement to police officers is always welcomed and appreciated. She
also serves as an excellent roll model to the children as she shows them
that the police are their friends. The officers wanted to let her know in
these ways that she is appreciated.
