What: Chief of Police to Address Command Staff Regarding the Significance and Impact of Non-Funding for the Department’s Reorganization and Future Recruiting

Los Angeles: The LAPD’s Chief of Police William J. Bratton, has requested that all Staff and Command Officers, Community Relations Unit Officers-in-Charge, Senior Lead Officers and Community Police Advisory Board (CPAB) Co-Chairs, attend a meeting on May 16, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. in the Parker Center Police Administration Building Auditorium.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the May 14th decision by the City Council’s Budget and Finance Committee to delay funding of the Department’s reorganization and future recruitment needs. Specific issues to be addressed include the impact that reduced funding will have on our counter-terrorism and crime-fighting objectives, efforts to increase the number of essential Department patrol officers, and Consent Decree compliance. The funding issues are crucial in meeting Chief Bratton’s goal of a 25 % reduction in homicides and a 10% reduction in violent crimes. These achievable statistic goals are essential in order to reach Mayor Hahn’s vision of making Los Angeles the safest "Big City in America."
