National Police Week Memorial Ceremony

What: National Police Week Memorial Ceremony

When: Friday, May 23, 2003 at 1:00 p.m.

Where: Los Angeles Police Department's Parker Center, Memorial Fountain, 150 North Los Angeles Street

Los Angeles: On Friday, May 23, 2003, at 1:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) will commemorate National Police Week with a memorial ceremony. During the often moving and poignant ceremony, the LAPD will pay tribute to the Los Angeles police officers who have been killed in the line of duty since 1907. In the distance, the sound of the bells from Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral will be ringing during the reading of the names of the officers killed in the line of duty. This year, the LAPD will be remembering Police Officer George Rose.

Officers Citywide, from all ranks, will present arms to those who have fallen in the line of duty. In these troubled times, the camaraderie between officers is especially strong, and the ceremonial admiration to honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice is held in the highest honor.

For further information, please contact Police Service Representative Dawn Danko, Office of Special Events at 213-485-3281.

This press release was prepared by Officer Jack Richter, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
