18 Year-Old Shot and Killed in Alley

Los Angeles: On May 21, 2003, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Octavio Perez, 18 years of age, a male Hispanic, was standing in the alley to the rear of 13314 Vermont Avenue. Unknown suspects traveling northbound in the alley in a dark colored vehicle, shot Perez numerous times. The suspects then fled the scene in their vehicle.

Perez was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:00 p.m.

The suspects have not been identified, however, the motive appears to be gang related.

Detectives from the Southeast Area Homicide Unit are handling the investigation. Anyone with information is requested to contact the detectives at 213-485-6902. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL (1-877-529-3855).

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media Relations Section, 213-485-3586.
