Serial Burglar Arrested

Los Angeles: During the first week of may 2003, detectives from the West Valley Burglary Unit identified a residential "Hot Prowl" burglary problem developing on the west side of West Valley Area.

Residents of a Woodland Hills neighborhood experienced a rash of hot prowl burglaries where a suspect would enter a residence, normally through open doors or windows, while the home owners slept. The suspect would take small items such as money, credit cards, cellular phones, jewelry, etc.

The detectives were able to identify a general area where some of the credit cards were being used. Through an extensive follow-up investigation, the detectives were able to secure a search warrant and search the suspect's residence in the 6000 block of Fallbrook Avenue. The detectives recovered numerous items of stolen property, which connected the suspect to the burglaries.

On May 23, 2003, Fred Douglas, 42 years of age, was arrested and charged with three counts of residential burglary, and is being held on a one million dollar bail.

Anyone with information regarding these crimes is requested to contact the West Valley Burglary Unit at 818-756-8553. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk, 1-877-LAWFULL, 1-877-529-3855.

This press release was prepared by Public Information Officer Jason Lee, Media relations Section, 213-485-3586.
