Los Angeles: On Saturday, May 22, 2004, the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division (VTD), in conjunction with the Valley Traffic Advisory Council and the City of Los Angeles Recreation & Parks, will host the First Annual Valley Traffic Safety Fair. The purpose of this event is to promote traffic safety. It also gives the community the opportunity to meet public safety officials and see first hand the equipment used to keep the streets safe.

This event will feature a bicycle safety course, static and interactive displays from the Van Nuys Area Bicycle Detail, VTD motorcycle units, black and white police cars, and horses from the Mounted Unit. Also featured will be fire trucks from the Los Angeles City Fire Department, the Metropolitan Transit Authority Simulation Experience, and representatives from the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Members from the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will display a car that was demolished as a result of a crash involving a drunk driver. Valley Traffic Division and California Highway Patrol officers will also conduct child safety seat inspections throughout the event.

Additionally, free bicycle helmets, prize give-a-ways and 25 community booths are expected to draw crowds of more than 4,000 people.

For additional information regarding the First Annual Valley Traffic Safety Fair, please contact Sergeant Roger Archambault, Valley Traffic Division, Community Traffic Services Unit, at 818-756-9204.
