LAPD and Community Members Join to Honor Fallen Officers at the 1st Annual LAPD Candlelight Vigil

 

What:
News Conference to open Police Memorial Week and Candlelight Vigil to honor Los Angeles Police Department Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

When:
Wednesday, May 18, 2005
7:00 p.m. News Conference
7:30 p.m. Candlelight Vigil

Where:
Ahmanson Recruit Training Center
5651 West Manchester Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90045

Who:
Chief of Police William J. Bratton, Los Angeles Police Department
Captain Terry Hara, Commanding Officer, Training Division
Families of Fallen Officers

Why:
The Los Angeles Police Department has organized this first-ever Candlelight Vigil. The event grew out of the public's interest to participate in the Department's annual week-long memorial ceremonies.

In particular, LAPD will be recognizing Officer Ricardo Lizarraga, who was killed in the line of duty, February 20, 2004.

Additional:
LAPD Officers from Air Support Division, the Motorcycle Drill Team, Bomb Squad, Underwater Dive Team, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Mounted and K-9 Units will be available for questions and photo opportunities.

Families of fallen officers will have the opportunity to create a pencil transfer of the names inscribed on the LAPD Memorial Monument.
