LAPD Unveils Surveillance Cameras in Fashion District

 

What:
News conference announcing the installation of surveillance cameras in the Fashion District

When:
Tuesday, May 31, 2005, 1:30 PM

Where:
In the Fashion District, Olympic Boulevard, between Maple Avenue and Santee Street, northside alley

Who:

  • Chief William J. Bratton
  • Councilwoman Jan Perry 9th Council District
  • Captain Andy Smith, Commanding Officer, Central Area
  • Representative from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA)

Why:
This is LAPD's third phase of surveillance camera installations.

Cameras were previously installed in MacArthur Park and along Hollywood Boulevard.

The MPAA donated $186,000 for the purchase and installation of ten surveillance cameras in the Fashion District.

The surveillance system is equipped with video capabilities and intelligent software, which identifies human movement. Officers monitoring from Central Police Station can direct officers to suspicious activity.

Photo opportunity: Immediately following the news conference, media outlets will have the opportunity to film an officer operating the cameras at Central Police Station, 251 E. Sixth Street.
