Two Die in Traffic Collision
Los Angeles: A Sunday morning traffic collision in Southeast Los Angeles claimed the lives of two pedestrians and injured three.
On May 13, 2007, around 7:00 a.m., Harley Daniels, 21, of Los Angeles, was driving his 2006 Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed west on Century Boulevard toward Vermont Avenue. Daniels lost control of the vehicle and collided with an iron gate on the corner of Century and Vermont. The impact of the collision caused the gate and other debris to strike five pedestrians standing at an adjacent bus stop.
Two of the pedestrians died: Marilyn Herod, 57, received massive head trauma and was pronounced deceased at the scene; Servin Herrera, 27, also suffered head trauma. He was rushed by paramedics to a local hospital where he later died. Two others were seriously injured. One bystander sustained minor injuries.
Daniels suffered minor injuries. He was arrested for Gross Vehicular Manslaughter.
