Victim Struck by Gunfire while Standing on Sidewalk NR12200wr

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Department West Bureau Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that would lead to the identification and arrest of a suspect who shot and killed 37-year-old Urbano Ruiz.

On April 29, 2012, around 2 a.m., officers responded to a shooting call in the 2400 block of west 18th Street. Ruiz was standing on the sidewalk, when the suspect walked up to him and shot him numerous times. After shooting Ruiz the suspect left the scene on foot.

The suspect was described as a possible male Hispanic, medium height and weight. The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time and it does not appear to be gang related.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported Ruiz to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.
