Fatal Hit and Run in Topanga NR16164rmh

Topanga: Hit and Run Traffic Collision on Topanga Canyon Boulevard south of Parthenia Street.

On Wednesday May 11, 2016, at around 10:10 p.m., a pedestrian was hit by an unknown vehicle in Canoga Park. The vehicle was traveling northbound on Topanga Canyon Boulevard when it collided with a pedestrian walking northbound on Topanga Canyon Boulevard with a shopping cart. The pedestrian was seriously injured as a result of the collision, and pronounced dead at the scene by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The pedestrian has not been identified but is described as a male Hispanic in his mid-70s. Notification to next of kin is pending.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene without identifying himself or herself and did not render aid to the victim, a violation of 20001 (A) VC, Hit and Run.

The Hit and Run vehicle sustained front-end damage.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise
