Captain Robert S. Hauck was born in Gardena, California. He was raised in central Indiana, but later returned to Southern California, where he completed high school. In 1986, he joined the United States Army Reserve Corps, and was assigned as a criminal investigator until 1994.
Captain Hauck became a Los Angeles Police Officer in May 1988, and worked a variety of assignments, such as, patrol, community relations, and vice.
Captain Hauck later promoted to detective, where he worked as a death investigator, and soon after, became a sergeant. In addition to working as a patrol supervisor, he was assigned as the Officer-in-Charge, Central Vice; an Associate Department Advocate; and as Aide to the Commanding Officer, Uniformed Services Group.
In 2001, he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant, and was initially assigned to 77th Street Area, as a patrol watch commander. After leaving 77th Street Area, he worked as the Assistant Employee Relations Administrator; Adjutant to the Commanding Officer, Operations-South Bureau; and Executive Officer to the Chief of Police. Prior to his promotion to captain, he served as the Department Advocate for two years.
Captain Hauck, as a sergeant, earned his bachelors degree in Business Administration. He also attended the Johns Hopkins University, Police Executive Leadership Program, and earned his Masters degree in Management in May 2007.
Captain Hauck is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the West Point Leadership Program, and the Supervisory Leadership Institute. He is also a member of several professional and fraternal organizations including the International Association of Chiefs of Police; FBI National Academy Associates; California Chiefs Association; California Peace Officers Association; Police Officers Association of Los Angeles County; the Society of Police Futurists International; and the Police Executive Research Forum.
Captain Hauck is married to his academy classmate, Detective III Tricia Hauck, and they have a 12-year-old daughter, who aspires to someday become a lawyer.
