Captain Jeffrey L. Greer was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where he attended St. Martin De Porres High School. Upon graduation, he attended Kentucky State University (KSU) in Frankfort, Kentucky for two years. After his sophomore year at KSU, he transferred to Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he received a Bachelors of Science degree, majoring in Criminal Justice. Shortly after graduation, he moved to Los Angeles and entered the Los Angeles Police Academy on January 26, 1981.
Since joining the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Greer has worked for a variety of patrol, investigative, and staff assignments. As a police officer, his assignments included Devonshire patrol, Southwest patrol, Operations-South Bureau Major Crimes Task Force, 77th Street Area Vice, and 77th Street Area Detectives.
In July 1988, Greer was appointed to the rank of Sergeant and was assigned to Foothill Patrol Division as a patrol supervisor. At the rank of Sergeant, his career path expanded to include coveted assignments such as Internal Surveillance Detail, Internal Affairs Division; Vice Supervisor, Central Area Vice; Commander's Aide, Operations Central Bureau; Investigations and Review and Evaluations Sections, Internal Affairs Group; and Administrative Appeals Coordinator, Office of the Chief of Staff.
In June 1998, Greer was appointed to the rank of Lieutenant and was assigned to Rampart Patrol Division as a Watch Commander. His assignments as a Lieutenant also included Officer in Charge, Rampart Area Administrative Unit; Adjutant to the Special Assistant, Office of the Chief of Police; Officer in Charge, Governmental Liaison Section, Office of the Chief of Police; and Officer in Charge, Information Management Section, Civil Rights Integrity Division, the Department entity responsible for facilitating the LAPD in gaining compliance with a Federal Consent Decree.
On October 31, 2004, Greer was appointed to the rank of Captain and assigned to Foothill Patrol Division where he is responsible for patrol operations. In addition to the various assignments and his multitude of training, Greer is a graduate of the Supervisory Leadership Institute and the 208th Session of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy. Additionally, he is a recipient of the LAPD Medal of Valor.
Captain Greer is a member of the following organizations: FBI National Academy Associates, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Peace Officers Association of Los Angeles County (POALAC), Association of Black Law Enforcement Executives (ABLE), and the Oscar Joel Bryant Foundation (OJB). |
