Captain III John N. Incontro has been a member of the Los Angeles Police Department since 1979 and is currently the Commanding Officer for Metropolitan Division. His prior command assignments have included Pacific and Mission Patrol and Training Divisions. As a police officer his assignments have included Southwest, Communications, Central, Hollywood and Metropolitan Division. While assigned to Metropolitan Division, Incontro was a member of the Special Weapons and Tactics team.
In 1988 he was promoted to Sergeant where he completed assignments at Southeast, Rampart and Southwest patrol. Additionally he was assigned to administrative assignments within Personnel Division and the Office of Operations, Evaluation and Administration Section.
Incontro was promoted to Lieutenant in 1995 and assigned as a watch commander at Hollenbeck Area. While at Hollenbeck Area he was assigned as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) Hollenbeck Area Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums, CRASH. He has served as the OIC Hollywood Area Vice Unit and Platoon Leader for the Metropolitan Division Mounted Platoon. Following the September 11, 2001 tragedy, John was appointed as the Acting Director, Security Services Division, Department of General Services. During that loan he was responsible for security and technology upgrades to City facilities including City Hall. Upon completion of that assignment he returned to the Metropolitan Division Mounted Platoon. Prior to his promotion to Captain he was a Section OIC for the new Force Investigation Division.
John graduated from John Marshall High School in Los Angeles and attended California State University, Los Angeles where he received his Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice. In 1999, he completed the requirements for a Master of Science degree in Leadership and Management from the University of La Verne. During his tenure with the LAPD he has completed the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, the West Point Leadership Program, Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police.
John is a member of the Los Angeles Police Revolver and Athletic Club and the Los Angeles Police Command Officer’s Association Board of Directors.
