Shooting at Childs Party Injures Six NR10411kr

Los Angeles:  Los Angeles Police Detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred Saturday evening during a child’s birthday party.  Detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the suspects.

On Saturday, August 14, 2010, at around 9:15 p.m., a birthday party was being held in the 14800 block of Polk Street.  During the party, some of those attending were standing in front of the location when two suspects in a red, 4-door compact car drove up.  Two male Hispanic’s with shaved heads stopped in front of the residence momentarily and opened fire in the direction of the home, hitting six victims.  Three of the victims were young children, just 11 and 12 years old.

None of the injuries were life threatening, with most suffering superficial wounds from shotgun pellets.

Missing person, 13-year-old Karina Valencia, was last seen at this party, a couple of hours before the shooting took place.  At this point in the investigation Detectives do not believe there is any connection between Karina’s disappearance and the shooting incident.

Detectives have few leads and are asking anyone with information about this shooting to contact them.  They would also like to remind the public that tips can be provided with complete anonymity by utilizing one of the methods listed below.

Anyone with information is urged to contact LAPD Mission Gang Detectives, Detectives Ryan Verna or Joe Preciado at 818-838-9922.  During non-business hours or on weekends, calls should be directed to 1-877-LAPD-24-7.   Anyone wishing to remain anonymous should call Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (800-222-8477).  Tipsters may also contact Crimestoppers by texting to phone number 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S on most keypads) with a cell phone.  All text messages should begin with the letters “LAPD.” Tipsters may also go to LAPDOnline.org, click on "webtips" and follow the prompts.
