LAPD Mission Area Launches Volunteer Community Patrol Program

WHAT:
Media Availability to announce the launch of the Mission Area, Volunteer Community Patrol (VCP) Program.

Los Angeles City Councilmember, Nury Martinez, Sixth District
Los Angeles Police Department, Captain Natalie Cortez, Commanding Officer, Mission Area
Dr. Tyrone Robinson, Mission Volunteer, Volunteer Community Patrol.


WHY:
The mission of the Volunteer Community Patrol Program is to assist the LAPD in reducing crime, by providing high-visibility policing in high-crime areas within the LAPD Mission Area. The frequency of patrols, locations, days, and times will vary based upon the needs of the LAPD.

Participation by the VCP serves to increase LAPD patrol presence in high crime areas, thus acting as a deterrent.

Each of the volunteers must pass a background screening process and complete training in the following areas prior to joining the program.

*Vehicle operations
*Slow speed driving/backing
*Radio Procedures and Penal Codes
*Duties and Responsibilities
