16-year-old Girl Killed in West Los Angeles

Los Angeles: A 16-year-old girl, Ana Interiano, was shot and killed as she stood in an alley with friends Tuesday afternoon, July 11, 2006. The murder was the first in West Los Angeles this year.

The shooting occurred just before 1 PM when a group of young people, including Ana, were gathered in an alley at 8973 Cadillac Avenue. Witnesses described a Hispanic man, wearing a black hooded sweat shirt and black pants, who got out of a white 1994 Ford Explorer near the mouth of the alley at Guthrie Avenue.

The gunman fired 7 to 8 shots toward the group, striking Ana in the left eye. She later died at Cedars Sinai Medical Center.

Ana Interiano was a student at Hamilton High School. She had just left the vicinity of the high school when the shooting occurred.

While detectives have gathered physical evidence, few witnesses have come forward with information about the shooting. The suspect's SUV had tinted windows, a luggage rack and sunroof.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Ron Phillips at 310-444-1520. On weekends and during off-hours, call the 24-hour toll free number at 1-877-LAWFULL (529-3855).
