Man Stabbed in Venice Beach

Los Angeles: A man was stabbed to death and another injured during a fight yesterday evening in Venice Beach.

At 7:00 p.m., police were dispatched to an assault with a deadly weapon radio call in the 100 block of Rose Avenue. When the officers arrived, they found a 50-year-old man, whose name is being withheld, stabbed to death.

According to police, a fight broke out between two men on a sidewalk. During the altercation, the victim was stabbed.

After the stabbing, the suspect identified as Daniel Giesbrecht Chaves, 32, fled the scene and went back to his home.

Officers received a radio call to investigate a patient with a stab wound at Santa Monica Hospital. Investigators were able to connect Chaves to the unidentified man’s murder. Chaves remains in custody at the hospital. His charges are still pending.

The identity of the victim is being withheld until a family member has been notified.

Detectives haven’t determined the motive of the stabbing.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Pacific Division Homicide Detectives Kevin Reynolds or Robyn Salazar at 310-482-6316. After hours and on weekends, call the 24-hour toll free number at the Detective Information Desk at 1-877-LAW-FULL (529-3855).
