LAPD Celebrates its 140th Year Anniversary and the Grand Opening of the new Police Administration Building NA09276SF

What:
Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to Commemorate LAPD’s new Police Administration Building (PAB)

When:
Saturday, October 24, 2009 10:00 a.m.

Where:
LAPD Police Administration Building
100 West First Street
Los Angeles, CA 90012

Who:
Mayor Antonio R. Villaraigosa
City Council President Eric Garcetti, 13th Council District
Councilwoman Jan Perry, 9th Council District
Los Angeles Police Commissioner President John Mack
Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton
Los Angeles Police Assistant Chief Sharon K. Papa
Board of Public Works President Cynthia M. Ruiz
City Engineer Gary Lee Moore

Why:
In 2003, the Los Angeles City Council approved the use of bonds from the Municipal Improvement Corporation of Los Angeles to fund the renovation of a new police headquarters.

The new Police Administration Building is a 500,000 square-foot structure that features 10 floors, a Café called LA Reflections, underground parking, a parking structure and a 400 seat civic auditorium.

The new police facility will replace Parker Center which, was built in 1955. Chief Bratton has said "This new police facility has finally brought us into the 21st Century.  As society and advancements in technology change, we too must adapt as a police department.  This state of the art facility will enable us to do just that."

At the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony, Chief Bratton will continue the year-long celebration of the Department's 140th Anniversary and welcome the public to tour the new building, its environmentally friendly grounds as well as the new Memorial Monument and Reflection Garden that was formally dedicated on October 14th.

Those attending the event will have the opportunity to meet many of the officers who patrol the Downtown area, view displays from some of the Department's specialized units, be entertained by local talent and enjoy samples of some of Downtown’s finest eateries.

PARKING:
Parking for the Media has been reserved on the north side curb of First Street between Los Angeles and Main Streets, facing west.
