On Wednesday, May 24th, 2017, around 12:50 a.m., Valley Traffic Division officers responded to a traffic collision at Winnetka Avenue and Gilmore Street. When officers arrived at the location, they found two cyclists that have been struck by a white utility type vehicle. Both cyclists were transported to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed that the cyclists were two male Hispanics riding their bicycles home from work at a close by business. As they rode north on Winnetka Avenue, the male driver of a white utility truck suddenly swerved from his lane into the two victims. Both cyclists were struck by the vehicle. The driver stopped and attempted to look back over his shoulder and continued north on Winnetka Avenue and into the nearby motel parking lot. The driver waited for several minutes before leaving the parking lot, westbound on Vanowen Street.

The decedent's name is currently being withheld pending his identification and notification of next of kin. The surviving cyclist has been released from the hospital and is resting at home.
The suspect vehicle is described as a white utility type vehicle.
