DETAILS:
On Tuesday, June 27th, the Los Angeles Police Department, Operations-South Bureau, will introduce E-Commerce Exchange Zones. This is an innovative idea designed to increase public awareness about the risks of robberies and thefts involved in conducting e-commerce exchanges (those involving various purchases from sites such as Offer Up, Craigslist, etc). The intent is to provide locations to increase the safety of persons conducting these exchanges by encouraging them to conduct them within the lobby of our police stations in the nine stations in Operations-South and West Bureau's.

This is the first time the LAPD has been a part of providing exchange zone locations for these types of transactions. It is the intent of the Los Angeles Police Department that the utilization of these zones by the community will reduce robberies, thefts, and violence that often occurs during these transactions.

In preparation for this program, representatives from OfferUp have provided training to detectives from LAPD as well as several local police departments. In the two years prior to the training OfferUp assisted LAPD in very few investigations. Since the training in February, that number has quadrupled. Resulting in the resolution of many of those cases.

The signage was graciously provided by Los Angeles City Council President, Herb Wesson and Councilmember Curren Price.
