Traffic Collision Kills Pedestrian and Injures Child NR17350dm

North Hills: On Sunday, November 26, 2017, at 10:25 p.m., a fatal traffic collision occurred on Woodley Avenue, just north of Parthenia Street.

Jose Macias, a 22-year-old resident of North Hills, was driving his 1997 Chevy pick-up truck northbound on Woodley Avenue. He struck six parked vehicles, including a pedestrian carrying a minor child in her arms. Ruth Chinchilla, a 34-year-old resident of North Hills, was taking her child out of a car seat in the back of her parked vehicle when she was struck by Macias' truck.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced Ruth Chinchilla dead at scene. Her child was transported to a local hospital in severe, yet stable condition.

Macias remained at scene and DUI is a factor in this collision. Macias was arrested and booked for 2nd degree murder, after investigators completed their initial investigation. This case is on-going and investigators are searching for anyone with knowledge of this case to come forward.
