Newton Area proudly selects Mrs. Elizabeth Guevara as its 2003 Outstanding Community Member. Mrs. Guevara is a distinguished member of the community and has been very supportive of the Division’s programs, especially those benefiting our youth.

Mrs. Guevara has been active in the Newton Area community for several years. The Area has long recognized its special relationship with her, who has repeatedly volunteered her time in an effort to ensure that the community events hosted by the Department are successful.

Mrs. Guevara has assisted officers in the establishment and coordination of Neighborhood Block Clubs and in gaining the community’s confidence and cooperation. She is employed full time by the Los Angeles County Health Department and also donates countless hours to John Adams Middle School, as well as performs the secretarial duties for the Title 1 Program at Jefferson High School.

Elizabeth has been instrumental in the planning of numerous community events, especially as they pertain to the fingerprinting of children in the area. Working with her school and community members, she has coordinated weekend and evening fingerprinting events. As a result, more than 500 Area youngsters have been fingerprinted for their safeguard.

Without her leadership and drive, these public safety events including National Night Out, the Graffiti Free Zone Community Clean up, would be lacking the special spark that she brings to these functions. Mrs. Guevara continues her leadership role as a member of the Newton Knights and Ladies, a small group of citizens devoted to community activism and hospitality.

Through Mrs. Guevara’s leadership, diligence and commitment, Newton Area has enjoyed a special partnership with the community. She is most deserving of this recognition.
