Edward Prokop

email Commander Edward J. Prokop
was born and raised in Washington, Connecticut. He joined the
United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1988 and served as an
Infantry Squad Leader during Operation Desert Storm. He earned an
Honorable Discharge in 1996. He graduated from Central Connecticut
State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and with
Distinction from California State University, Northridge with a
Master of Public Administration Degree in 2009.

Commander Prokop began his career with the Los Angeles Police
Department in January 1994. His assignments as a Police Officer
included Southeast Area, Pacific Area, Operations-South Bureau
(OSB) Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH),
Metropolitan Division "C" Platoon, and Metropolitan Division K-9
Platoon.

In 2005, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In addition to
his patrol duties as a field supervisor at Southwest Area,
Commander Prokop was also assigned as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC)
of the Crime Impact Team, Operations-South Bureau Special
Enforcement Initiative Team (SEIT), 77th Street Area Gang
Enforcement Detail (GED), and Aide to the Assistant Commanding
Officer OSB.

In 2008, Commander Prokop was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant
and was assigned to Rampart Area as a Watch Commander. His
Lieutenant experience included assignments as the Rampart Area Gang
Impact Team OIC, and the Northeast Area Gang Impact Team OIC.

Commander Prokop was promoted to the rank of Captain in 2011 and
assumed the duties of Commanding Officer for Newton Patrol
Division, and in 2013, became the Area Commanding Officer for
Newton Community Police Station. In 2015, he became the Commanding
Officer of Metropolitan Division.

In July 2016, Prokop promoted to the rank of Commander and was
assigned as the Assistant Commanding Officer of Counter-Terrorism
and Special Operations Bureau.
