Captain Edward J. Prokop was born and raised in Washington, Connecticut.  He joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1988 and served as an Infantry Squad Leader during Operation Desert Storm.  He earned an Honorable Discharged in 1996.  He Graduated from Central Connecticut State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and with Distinction from California State University, Northridge with a Master of Public Administration Degree in 2009.

Captain Prokop began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in January 1994.  His assignments as a Police Officer included Southeast Area, Pacific Area, Operations-South Bureau (OSB) Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums (CRASH), Metropolitan Division “C” Platoon and Metropolitan Division K-9 Platoon.

He was promoted to Sergeant in 2005.  In addition to his patrol duties as a field supervisor at Southwest Area, Captain Prokop was also assigned as the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Crime Impact Team, Operations-South Bureau Special Enforcement Initiative Team (SEIT), 77th Street Area Gang Enforcement Detail (GED), and Aide to the Assistant Commanding Officer OSB.

Captain Prokop was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and was assigned as a Watch Commander at Rampart Area.  His Lieutenant experience included assignments as the Rampart Area Gang Impact Team OIC, and the Northeast Area Gang Impact Team OIC.

In 2011, he was promoted to his current rank of Captain and was assigned as the Commanding Officer for Newton Patrol Division.

In 2013, he became the Area Commanding Officer, Newton Community Police Station.
